Luxury Vehicle Fitness Test rules have been changed, giving relief to owners of private luxury vehicles with seven to nine seats. The government has replaced the earlier annual fitness requirement with a one-time fitness test for eligible vehicles.
The change comes through an amendment to the rules issued in 2005. It is expected to reduce the need for eligible vehicle owners to repeatedly visit fitness centres and spend money on related procedures.
Luxury Vehicle Fitness Test Rule Changed
Under the amended rules, private luxury vehicles with seven to nine seats that are used only for personal purposes will no longer need to undergo a fitness test every year.
Earlier, the 2005 rules required such private vehicles to undergo an annual fitness test. The latest change removes this recurring requirement for eligible vehicles and introduces a one-time fitness test.
What Happens to Vehicles Older Than 15 Years
The relaxation does not apply indefinitely to every private vehicle. Private vehicles that are more than 15 years old will continue to undergo a fitness test every year.
This means vehicle owners still need to keep track of the age of their vehicles and comply with the applicable fitness requirements once the vehicle crosses the 15-year threshold.
Relief for Private Luxury Vehicle Owners
The rule change is expected to reduce the inconvenience involved in repeatedly taking private luxury vehicles to fitness centres. Owners can also save on expenses linked to documentation and other procedures associated with recurring fitness tests.
The Transport Department has been making changes to vehicle-related procedures with the aim of improving road safety while reducing unnecessary inconvenience for vehicle owners.
Fitness Process Changes Now in Effect
According to ARTO Shivam Yadav, changes have been made to the fitness process for private vehicles and enforcement has started following the order.
The revised system therefore provides relief to eligible private luxury vehicle owners while retaining annual fitness checks for private vehicles that are more than 15 years old.
