Reliance Jio Launches ‘Jio Space Fiber’ Bringing 1 Gbps Speed

Reliance Jio is set to revolutionize internet accessibility across India with the introduction of its cutting-edge technology, ‘Jio Space Fiber.’

This satellite-based giga fiber technology promises to deliver high-speed internet service even in the remotest areas, where establishing broadband connectivity through fiber cables would be a challenging endeavor.

The best part? Jio Space Fiber aims to make this service accessible at an affordable price point.

Expanding Connectivity to Remote Areas

The grand unveiling of ‘Jio Space Fiber’ took place at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) in Pragati Maidan, Delhi.

With its launch, the reach of high-speed internet services will extend to various parts of the country.

Where Will the Service Be Available?

Jio Space Fiber is already operational in select regions, including Gir National Park in Gujarat, Korba in Chhattisgarh, Nabarangpur in Orissa, and ONGC-Jorhat in Assam.

This marks the third major addition to Reliance Jio’s connectivity portfolio, following Jio Fiber and Jio Air Fiber.

Satellite Selection for Connectivity

To provide broadband connectivity to remote areas, Jio Space Fiber will utilize SES company’s satellites.

This means that multi-gigabit connectivity will now be accessible anywhere and at any time.

Understanding Jio SpaceFiber

Reliance Jio already offers high-speed broadband services through Jio Fiber and Jio AirFiber via fixed-line and wireless connections in India.

With Jio Space Fiber, the company is venturing into satellite-based internet services, enabling high-speed internet accessibility in areas where conventional infrastructure like wires and towers might not be feasible.

A Game Changer for Millions

Reliance Jio estimates that approximately 450 million (45 crore) users in the country will benefit from this satellite-based internet service.

Similar to DTH services, users will need to install a receiver in their homes to capture the radio waves beamed from the satellite.

The partnership with SES, renowned for Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellite technology, solidifies Jio’s commitment to expanding internet accessibility. SES recently launched the 03b and 03b mPOWER satellites.

Notably, satellite-based internet services can often prove to be more cost-effective compared to traditional wired and wireless options.

Jio Space Fiber is poised to bridge the digital divide, offering high-speed connectivity to even the most remote corners of the nation, and changing the digital landscape for millions of users in India.
