Zepto Free Delivery Rule has changed for customers in select locations, with the minimum order value for free delivery increased from ₹149 to ₹199. The change means customers placing smaller orders may now have to pay a delivery fee or add more products to their cart.

The revised threshold is particularly important for people who use quick-commerce apps for small and urgent purchases. The exact minimum order value and applicable charges can vary depending on the location and other conditions shown on the Zepto app.

Zepto Free Delivery Rule raises minimum order

Under the new rule, customers generally need to place an order worth at least ₹199 to qualify for free delivery in locations where the revised threshold applies. Previously, the minimum order value was ₹149.

For example, someone ordering products worth ₹150 may now need to either pay the applicable delivery fee or add more items to increase the cart value to ₹199.

The change follows an earlier increase in the minimum order value from ₹99 to ₹149 for several users. The latest move means customers making low-value purchases may feel the impact more than those placing larger grocery orders.

Small Zepto orders may cost more

The biggest impact is likely to be on customers who use quick-commerce platforms for a few urgent items. A small order for groceries, snacks or other everyday products may no longer qualify for free delivery if it falls below the applicable threshold.

Customers can avoid the delivery charge by adding more products to their cart and crossing the minimum order value. However, this also means spending more than originally planned.

The exact delivery fee is not necessarily the same for every customer. Zepto’s charges can vary based on factors including the customer’s location, demand and conditions displayed on the app.

Free delivery limit can reach ₹299

The ₹199 threshold is not necessarily the highest amount customers may see. During periods of high demand, Zepto’s minimum order value for free delivery can increase further to ₹299.

This means customers may need to check the cart before placing an order, particularly during busy periods. A threshold that changes with demand can make small purchases more expensive at certain times.

Why Zepto increased the threshold

The change comes as quick-commerce companies focus more on improving the economics of individual orders. Delivering very small orders involves packing, storage and delivery costs, regardless of the value of the products purchased.

By encouraging customers to place larger orders, the higher threshold could increase average basket sizes and improve the economics of smaller deliveries. The revised limit also brings Zepto broadly in line with rivals such as Blinkit and Swiggy Instamart.

For customers, the practical takeaway is simple: before placing a small Zepto order, check the minimum order value and delivery charge shown in the app. The Zepto Free Delivery Rule may mean adding another item or paying an additional charge for orders below the applicable threshold.
