Ordering food through Swiggy and Zomato has become a part of daily life, especially for people living away from home or those who don’t have time to cook. But this convenience could soon be affected in Bengaluru.
Many hotels and restaurants in the city have warned that they may stop accepting orders from Swiggy and Zomato after August 15 if their concerns are not addressed.
Why Are Restaurants Taking This Step?
The Bengaluru Restaurant Association says it has received several complaints from restaurant owners, with most of them related to Swiggy. Zomato has also faced complaints from partner restaurants.
According to the association, if delivery platforms fail to resolve these long-pending issues, restaurants may suspend online orders through these apps.
The association also believes that new food delivery companies could enter the market and increase competition by offering better services.
What Are the Restaurant Owners Demanding?
Restaurant owners have asked food delivery platforms to make their payment and billing systems more transparent. Their main demands include:
No money should be deducted after a customer complaint without a valid reason.
Restaurants should receive compensation if an order is cancelled after the food has already been prepared.
Delivery platforms should provide detailed payment statements showing every deduction.
Terms and conditions that only benefit the platform should be removed.
A dedicated relationship manager should be assigned to handle restaurant issues.
Platforms should not run discounts or promotional offers without the restaurant’s approval.
If these demands are not met, many restaurants in Bengaluru could stop accepting orders through Swiggy and Zomato, which may impact food delivery services for customers across the city.
