Updating your Aadhaar details has become much simpler.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new feature that allows Aadhaar holders to add or update their email ID directly through the Aadhaar App.
The new service became available on July 1, 2026, and users can access it free of cost for six months.
This means you no longer need to visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or enrolment centre just to update your email address.
According to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the move is aimed at making Aadhaar services more convenient and reducing the need for physical visits.
Update Your Email ID Using the Aadhaar App
With the latest update, Aadhaar holders can add or change their email ID using the Aadhaar App on both Android and iPhone devices.
Earlier, updating an email address required a visit to an Aadhaar centre.
Now, the entire process can be completed from your smartphone.
The new facility has received a positive response.
UIDAI said that more than 2.5 lakh people updated their email IDs within the first two days of the service becoming available.
Why Should You Link Your Email with Aadhaar?
Linking your email ID to Aadhaar offers an extra layer of security.
Whenever your Aadhaar is used for authentication, you will receive a real-time email alert.
This helps you keep track of where and when your Aadhaar is being used and makes it easier to spot any unauthorised activity.
According to the government, these notifications improve transparency and help Aadhaar holders stay informed about the use of their identity.
Other Aadhaar Services Available on the App
The Aadhaar App already offers several digital services that reduce the need to visit an Aadhaar centre.
According to UIDAI:
More than 40 lakh people have updated their mobile numbers through the app.
Around 10 lakh users have updated their address using the app.
The authority says these services are part of its efforts to make Aadhaar management easier and improve digital access for citizens.
