Indian Railways has introduced a new mobile application called Punctuality BZA to improve train operations and reduce delays.
Developed by the Vijayawada Division of the South Coast Railway (SCoR), it is the first internal app that allows railway officials to monitor train punctuality in real time.
The Android-based app gives officials instant access to train movement data, helping them identify delays quickly and take corrective action.
The initiative is part of Indian Railways’ ongoing efforts to make operations more efficient through digital technology.
A Faster Way to Monitor Train Operations
Until now, railway officials relied mainly on desktop systems and the ICMS web portal to track train movements.
These systems often required multiple logins and OTP verification, making real-time monitoring time-consuming.
The new Punctuality BZA app brings all important information together on a single mobile dashboard.
This allows officials to check train status anytime and from anywhere, making it easier to respond quickly when delays occur.
Key Features of the Punctuality BZA App
The app offers several useful tools in one place.
Officials can view section-wise train status, Late Train Monitoring (LTM) data, Punctuality Assessment Module (PAM) reports, and details of delayed or missing trains.
One of its biggest features is an automatic alert system.
If a train is delayed by more than 15 minutes, the app immediately sends a notification, allowing railway staff to act without delay.
GPS-Based Tracking Improves Accuracy
The app is also linked to another railway system called LTM BZA, which uses GPS technology to monitor train movements.
It automatically records train arrivals, departures, speed, and movement details.
Train Managers can also enter the reasons for delays directly into the system, and the information becomes available instantly on the dashboard for railway controllers.
This helps officials analyse problems in real time and improve coordination across railway operations.
How Will Passengers Benefit?
Although the app is designed for internal use, passengers could also benefit from the improved monitoring system.
By helping officials detect delays early and respond faster, the app is expected to improve train punctuality, reduce operational disruptions, and strengthen coordination between railway staff.
Indian Railways believes this digital initiative will make train operations more reliable and efficient.
If it proves successful, the Punctuality BZA model could be introduced across other railway zones in the future.
