If you invest in international markets through Axis Mutual Fund, this update needs your attention. The fund house has temporarily stopped accepting fresh investments in some of its popular global schemes.

This change will come into effect from May 6, 2026. Earlier, Kotak Mahindra Mutual Fund had also taken a similar step, showing that the industry is close to hitting its overseas investment limit.

Fresh Investments Now Blocked

As per the official update, investors will no longer be able to put fresh money into three key international funds. These include:

Axis Global Equity Alpha Fund of Fund

Axis Global Innovation Fund of Fund

Axis Greater China Equity Fund of Fund

Lump sum investments are now completely stopped. Along with this, new SIP (Systematic Investment Plan) and STP (Systematic Transfer Plan) registrations have also been closed.

Another important point: no new investment requests will be accepted after 3:00 PM on May 5, 2026.

No Major Impact on Existing Investors

There is some relief if you are already invested in these schemes.

Existing SIPs and STPs will continue without any changes. You don’t need to take any action. Also, there are no restrictions on withdrawals or switching your funds. You can redeem your money anytime as per your needs.

Why This Decision Was Taken

The main reason behind this move is the limit set by Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).

Currently, Indian mutual funds can invest up to $7 billion in foreign markets. There is also a separate $1 billion limit for overseas ETFs. Fund houses are only allowed to invest within the unused portion of this limit, which was defined earlier.

Now that this limit is almost fully used, fund houses have no option but to pause fresh investments. The restrictions will remain in place until SEBI decides to increase the overseas investment cap.

In simple terms, the demand for global investing is high, but the allowed limit has nearly been reached—forcing fund houses to hit the brakes for now.
