The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced a useful update that can solve a common problem for employees — wrong Member IDs linked to your UAN.

Now, EPFO allows users to de-link incorrect Member IDs, even if contributions have already been made in those accounts.

What’s the New Update About?

Sometimes, employers create wrong or duplicate Member IDs (MIDs) without the employee knowing.

This can create confusion in your PF records.

With the new rule:

You can request to remove incorrect Member IDs from your UAN

Even if some contributions exist, de-linking is still possible (under certain limits)

This makes PF records cleaner and more accurate.

How the De-Linking Process Works

The process is simple but involves both employee and employer.

Here’s how it works:

You raise a request on the EPFO portal

The request goes to your employer for approval

If the employer approves, the ID is removed (if contributions are limited)

If the employer doesn’t respond within 2 weeks or rejects it, the request goes to EPFO officials

Officials review the case and take a final decision

This ensures that every request is properly checked before approval.

Step-by-Step: How to De-Link Online

You can do this easily through the EPFO member portal:

Log in to your account

Go to Service History

Check your Service Details

Click on De-link next to the Member ID you want to remove

The system will automatically check if your request is valid before processing it.

Important Rules You Should Know

Not all Member IDs can be removed. Here are the key conditions:

Only incorrect or mistakenly linked IDs can be de-linked

IDs with more than 6 contributions are not eligible

IDs with settled or pending claims cannot be removed

Records created before December 31, 2016 are currently restricted

Also, if the system finds issues like early joining dates or active claims, your request may be rejected.

Why This Matters

This update helps employees:

Fix errors in their PF accounts

Avoid confusion during withdrawals or transfers

Maintain clean and accurate service history

Final Takeaway

The new feature by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation makes it easier to correct mistakes in your PF account.

If you notice any wrong Member ID linked to your UAN, it’s a good idea to check and fix it now to avoid problems later.
