Concerns about rising petrol and diesel prices have increased again across the country. A major private company, Nayara Energy, has raised petrol prices by ₹5.30 per litre and diesel by ₹3 per litre.
The main reason behind this hike is global factors. In particular, the ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States in West Asia have affected energy supplies.
Global Supply Chains Under Pressure
Rising conflict between the US and Iran, along with attacks on oil facilities, has disturbed global supply chains. Important oil routes like the Strait of Hormuz are facing increased pressure, which is affecting the movement of crude oil.
Because India depends heavily on oil imports, these global issues are slowly pushing fuel prices higher in the country.

Other cities such as Bengaluru, Chennai, and Bhubaneswar are also seeing high petrol prices. In the NCR region, prices are slightly lower in Gurugram and Noida, but the increase is still noticeable.

Panic Buying and Government Response
Amid rumors of fuel shortages, people in some states have started panic buying, leading to long queues at petrol pumps. This situation has been especially seen in parts of Assam, including Guwahati.
However, the government has clearly stated that there is no shortage of petrol or diesel in the country and supply is normal. Despite this, rumors on social media have increased public concern.
