India now has its own AI chatbot app.
Homegrown startup Sarvam has quietly launched its AI assistant called Indus.
The app is now available on Android, iOS and the web.
There was no big launch event — the company simply made it live on app stores.
However, not everyone can use it right away.
Access is currently limited, and many users are being placed on a waitlist.
What Is Indus AI?
According to Sarvam, Indus is built specially for Indian users.
The chatbot supports conversations in multiple Indian languages.
Users can start chatting in English and switch to Hindi or another Indian language in the middle of the conversation.
This multilingual switching is one of its key features.
Like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini, Indus also supports voice commands.
You can speak to it, ask questions, and get answers based on web searches or deeper analysis.
What Can Indus Do?
Indus is not just for simple Q&A.
The app includes AI agents that can help automate certain tasks.
Users can write and edit documents directly inside the app.
It also allows you to upload PDFs and images.
The assistant can read the content and answer questions based on what you upload.
This could help students summarise notes, professionals review documents, or anyone looking for quick explanations.
Sarvam has not officially revealed which AI model powers Indus.
But during the AI Impact Summit 2026, the company introduced two large language models — Sarvam-30B and Sarvam-105B.
Indus may be running on one of these in-house models.
How to Download and Access Indus
The Indus app is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
A web version is also live.
To create an account, users must verify their phone number.
After that, most people are added to a waitlist.
If you have an invite code, you can skip the waitlist and start using the app immediately.
Sarvam has not yet confirmed when Indus will be fully open to everyone.
For now, early access appears to be limited as the company gradually rolls out its India-focused AI assistant.
