The upcoming municipal elections in Maharashtra will have an impact on the stock market.
As a result, trading will be suspended on both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Thursday, January 15, 2026.
In its latest circular, the NSE announced that January 15 will now be a full-day trading holiday for the capital market segment.
Earlier, this day was marked only as a settlement holiday. However, after the revised order, the stock market will remain completely closed on this date.
Trading Segments That Will Be Closed
According to the new notification, there will be no trading on both BSE and NSE on January 15. The following segments will remain closed:
Equity
Equity derivatives
Securities lending and borrowing
Currency derivatives
Interest rate derivatives
In addition, the commodity derivatives segment will not have a morning trading session on this day.

Apart from these holidays, the stock market will also remain closed every Saturday and Sunday as part of regular weekly holidays.
