Air travelers between India and Europe will soon enjoy more travel options.

Air India is resuming flights to Rome, while IndiGo will launch new direct flights from Delhi to London Heathrow.

These moves aim to improve connectivity for business, tourism, and cultural exchange.

Air India Returns to Rome

Air India had operated flights between Delhi and Rome until early 2020 but suspended them due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

From March 25, 2026, Air India will resume this route with four flights a week on Boeing 787-8 aircraft.

Schedule: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays

Aircraft configuration: 18 flat-bed business class seats and 238 economy seats

Nipun Aggarwal, Air India’s Chief Commercial Officer, said the new route strengthens India-Italy ties in culture, business, and trade.

He added that the service will improve direct connectivity and offer easy onward travel to destinations in India and Southeast Asia via Delhi.

Rome joins Air India’s growing European network, which now includes eight destinations in Europe and three in the UK.

IndiGo Launches Delhi-London Flights

IndiGo will operate five direct flights a week from Delhi to London Heathrow, starting February 2, 2026.

These flights will use Boeing 787 aircraft in a dual-class configuration, featuring IndiGoStretch and Economy classes.

CEO Pieter Elbers said the new flights will support growing travel demand between India and the UK, whether for business, tourism, or visiting family and friends.

He emphasized IndiGo’s commitment to making international travel easier and more accessible.

Strengthening Economic and Cultural Ties

According to Ivan Bassato, Chief Aviation Officer of Rome Airport, the resumption of Air India flights will strengthen economic and cultural ties between India and Italy and provide more opportunities for exchanges between the two countries.

Both airlines’ expansions reflect India’s growing long-haul travel market and the increasing demand for international connectivity.
