Microsoft Edge is facing a major security issue, and the Indian government has warned users about it.

The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) highlighted multiple vulnerabilities in the browser that could allow attackers to bypass your device’s security and access personal data.

These vulnerabilities have been given a high severity rating, signaling serious risks for millions of users across India and beyond.

What Is the Risk in Microsoft Edge?

According to CERT-In, the issues affect Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based) and involve multiple components, including:

Passwords

WebRTC

Downloads

DevTools

Media Stream and Digital Credentials

The problems include spoofing, race conditions, type confusion, use-after-free errors, and bad casting in different parts of the browser.

A hacker could exploit these flaws by convincing a user to visit a malicious or specially crafted website.

Edge uses Google’s Chromium engine (also used by Chrome), but these vulnerabilities are specific to Edge’s architecture.

Microsoft has acknowledged the issue and alerted all users to update their browser.

Who Is at Risk?

The vulnerabilities put all Edge users at risk, including individuals and businesses.

Specifically, the affected versions are:

Microsoft Edge Stable Channel (Chromium-based) versions prior to 143.0.3650.66

If you are using an older version, it is crucial to update Edge immediately to protect your data.
