Paying electricity, gas, water and other bills could soon become much easier.

WhatsApp has started rolling out a new Bill Payments feature in India, allowing users to manage and pay their household bills directly through the app.

The feature is being introduced gradually and will reach Android and iOS users across India in the coming weeks.

One Place for Almost All Your Bills

The new service is powered by the Bharat Connect (BBPS) network and gives users access to around 22,722 billers across 30 categories.

These include:

Electricity bills

Gas bills

Water bills

FASTag

Insurance

Credit card payments

Loan repayments

Users can access the feature by tapping the rupee icon at the top of the WhatsApp home screen.

WhatsApp is also making it easier to keep track of payments.

Users will be able to see their past and upcoming bills, manage multiple accounts with the same provider and make payments using UPI, credit cards or debit cards.

WhatsApp Wants Bill Payments to Feel Like Sending a Message

According to Meta India Managing Director and Country Head Arun Srinivas, WhatsApp wants to make everyday tasks as simple as messaging friends and family.

The company already allows users to access several services and make purchases without leaving the app.

With bill payments, WhatsApp is now bringing another routine household task into the same platform.

The feature is being rolled out in phases, so some users may have to wait before they see it on their phones.

WhatsApp Pay Is Also Growing Fast

The bill-payment launch comes as WhatsApp continues to expand its digital payments business in India.

WhatsApp Pay processed around 150 million transactions in June 2026, more than four times the 37 million transactions recorded in June 2024.

Its share of total UPI transaction volumes also increased from around 0.27% in June 2024 to about 0.7% in June 2026.

With bill payments now being added, WhatsApp is making a bigger push into India’s fast-growing digital payments market.
