To make it look real, it even uses the Prime Minister’s photo, the G20 logo, and the Ministry of Education’s name.

However, PIB Fact Check has confirmed that this claim is completely false. According to PIB, there is no such government scheme.

Instead, it is a scam designed to steal people’s personal and banking details.

How the Scam Works

The viral message usually contains a link asking people to “register” for the free laptop.

When users click the link, they are taken to fake websites that copy government logos and designs to appear authentic. These websites ask for personal details like:

Name, phone number, and address

Aadhaar number

Bank details

Some messages even ask users to download apps, which may contain malware or spyware that can harm devices and steal information.

If someone enters their details, the information goes directly into the hands of scammers.

Five Safety Tips

Do not click on unknown links, especially those claiming “Free Laptop” or “Free Government Scheme.”

Check official government websites (such as the Ministry of Education’s portal) to confirm whether any real scheme exists.

Never share personal details like Aadhaar number, bank information, or passwords on suspicious websites.

Do not forward unverified messages, as this only helps spread scams further.

Be cautious of fake apps that may contain harmful software.

PIB’s Warning

PIB Fact Check has clearly stated that this viral message is not linked to any government scheme.

They have advised people not to click on such links and not to share their personal information with unknown sources.
