The monsoon is set to remain active across many parts of India this week.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several states could receive heavy to very heavy rainfall between August 24 and 29.
Thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds are also expected in many regions.
States such as Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, and several northeastern states are likely to be the most affected.
Odisha to See Very Heavy Rain Till August 26
A low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to Odisha from August 24 to 26. Heavy rain may continue in some parts of the state until August 29.
Gangetic West Bengal is also likely to receive heavy rainfall on August 24. On August 25 and 26, strong winds of 30 to 40 kmph are expected, with gusts reaching up to 50 kmph.
Heavy Rain Alert for Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh
Chhattisgarh is expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on August 24 and 25. Heavy rain may continue in some areas on August 26 and 27, while rainfall is likely across many parts of the state until August 29.
In eastern Madhya Pradesh, very heavy rainfall is expected from August 24 to 26, followed by heavy rain on August 27. Western Madhya Pradesh may receive heavy rain on August 24, very heavy rain on August 25, and more heavy showers on August 26.
Bihar and Jharkhand Face Rain, Lightning and Strong Winds
Bihar is likely to receive heavy rainfall from August 24 to 26. The IMD has also warned of thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds between August 24 and 29. Wind speeds may reach 30 to 40 kmph, with gusts up to 50 kmph.
Jharkhand is also expected to witness heavy rainfall from August 24 to 27. Strong winds of 30 to 40 kmph, with gusts up to 50 kmph, are likely during this period.
Uttarakhand and Northeast to Receive Rain Throughout the Week
Uttarakhand is expected to receive widespread rainfall from August 24 to 29. Heavy rain is possible in some areas on August 24, while thunderstorms and lightning may continue through the week.
In the Northeast, Arunachal Pradesh is likely to receive rain from August 25 to 29. Assam and Meghalaya may see scattered rain on August 24 and 25, followed by widespread rainfall from August 26 to 29.
Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are also expected to receive rain throughout the week, with isolated heavy rainfall likely in several places.
South India May Witness Heavy Rain and Strong Winds
Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal may receive heavy rainfall on August 24 and 25. Wind speeds could reach 40 to 50 kmph, with gusts up to 60 kmph.
Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam are also likely to receive heavy rainfall on August 24 and 25. Strong winds are expected to continue in these regions until August 27.
Overall, the IMD has advised people in the affected states to stay alert, especially in areas prone to flooding, waterlogging, thunderstorms, and strong winds.
