IT company Wipro hired 10,000 freshers during the financial year 2024–25. This meets the company’s full-year hiring target, which was set between 10,000 and 12,000.
For the next financial year, 2025–26, Wipro plans to hire a similar number of campus recruits, but the final decision will depend on how the business environment looks at that time.
During the company’s earnings call, Chief HR Officer Saurabh Govil said, “We ended FY25 with around 10,000 fresher hires.
We want to continue this trend, but we’re closely watching market conditions. We don’t want to hire people and not have enough projects to place them on.
We’ve had a bad experience in the past, and we’re being very careful this time.”
Govil explained that in today’s slow growth phase, Wipro still has room to improve how well it utilizes its current employees. Also, employee turnover is falling.
In the January–March 2025 quarter, the attrition rate (the number of people leaving the company) dropped to 15%, down from 15.3% in the previous quarter (October–December 2024).
What about salary hikes?
Wipro is taking a cautious approach to salary hikes, just like TCS. Govil said that any decision on raises will only be made when the regular hike cycle comes closer. “We gave salary hikes early in September last time.
Before that, we did it in December. Right now, that time is still far, and with the current uncertainty, we’ll take a call only when the hike period arrives,” he said.
Similarly, TCS also stated it would decide on salary increases during the year depending on business performance.
Employee headcount increases
Wipro added 614 new employees in the January–March 2025 quarter. This came after a reduction of 1,157 employees in the previous quarter (October–December 2024).
For the full financial year 2025, Wipro’s total workforce increased by 732, reaching 233,346 employees, compared to 232,614 at the end of the previous year.
