The government telecom department has implemented strict measures to combat fake calls.
Recently, 1.77 crore mobile numbers used for making fake calls were shut down.
This action, taken in collaboration with TRAI, aims to protect over 122 crore telecom users in the country.
Together, they have intensified efforts to tackle the issue. Last month, TRAI introduced a new policy allowing operators to block marketing and fake calls on their own, eliminating the need for whitelisting.
The telecom department reports that it is stopping around 1.35 crore fake calls daily.
Additionally, 1.77 crore mobile numbers involved in making fake calls have been shut down.
In response to public complaints, the department has blocked about 7 crore calls in just five days. The department has stated that this is just the start of their ongoing campaign.
Fake calls will be curbed
This is not the first time the telecom department has taken action against fake callers. Previously, it had blocked lakhs of SIM cards.
The department is now taking even stricter steps to stop fake calls, and from now on, callers will only receive whitelisted telemarketing calls.
11 lakh accounts were frozen
The Ministry of Communications recently announced that banks and payment wallets have frozen around 11 lakh accounts.
The government also mentioned that more SIM cards will be blocked in the coming days.
Four telecom service operators (TSPs) working with the Department of Telecommunications (DOT) have blocked 45 lakh fake international calls from reaching the telecom network.
