According to reports, the state is likely to increase the dearness allowance (DA) by 4 percent. In addition, non-gazetted employees may also receive a bonus.

Dearness Allowance to Increase by 4 Percent

Sources suggest that the Uttar Pradesh government, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, will make this decision after the central government announces its own DA hike.

The central government is expected to announce a DA increase in late September or early October.

This 4 percent hike will benefit around 8 lakh employees of the state government. However, it will also place an additional burden of approximately Rs 3,000 crore on the state treasury.

Non-Gazetted Employees to Receive Bonus

Along with the DA hike, non-gazetted employees are likely to receive a bonus. The bonus amount is typically based on basic salary and dearness allowance.

Last year, employees received a bonus of around Rs 7,000, and this year, the bonus may be slightly higher.

Discussion on 8th Pay Commission

There has been a demand from employee associations for the formation of the 8th Pay Commission. However, the government has not yet considered this proposal.

On July 30, Minister of State for Finance, Pankaj Chaudhary, informed the Rajya Sabha that two requests were made in June 2024 for the formation of the 8th Pay Commission.

Despite this, no formal proposal is currently in place. The 7th Pay Commission was set up in February 2014, and its recommendations were implemented from January 1, 2016.

Normally, the Central Government sets up a Pay Commission every 10 years to revise government employee salaries.
