WhatsApp Chat Themes are reportedly getting five new categories for some Android beta testers, giving users more ways to change the appearance of their conversations.
The feature is currently being tested with a limited group of Android users.
According to a report from WABetaInfo, the new theme experience is rolling out on WhatsApp Android beta version 2.26.37.6. The rollout is gradual, so the option may not be available to every beta tester yet.
WhatsApp Chat Themes Get Five Categories
The reported update includes five categories called Nature, Live, Vibrant, Minimal and Doodle. Each category is designed to offer a different visual style for WhatsApp conversations.
The Nature section could include visuals inspired by forests, mountains, deserts and oceans, while Minimal is expected to focus on simpler backgrounds. The Doodle category may offer familiar doodle-style patterns.
The Live category is expected to include wallpapers with slow-moving animations. Animated options may have a badge on their thumbnails to help users distinguish them from static wallpapers.
Wallpapers Can Be Changed Separately
The update is also said to separate wallpapers from the overall chat theme. This means users could change the conversation background without necessarily changing the complete theme.
The wallpaper section may include categories similar to the chat themes, along with additional Vibrant and Gradient options. Users could also select pictures from their phone gallery or create wallpapers using AI.
WhatsApp May Pick Chat Bubble Colours
WhatsApp is reportedly working on another option that could automatically select chat bubble colours based on the chosen theme and wallpaper. The suggested colour may be selected to make messages easier to read.
Users may also be able to change the suggested bubble colour manually. This would give them more control over the appearance of individual conversations.
Android Beta Testing Is Underway
The new theme experience is currently being rolled out gradually to a small group of Android beta testers. The same theme structure is reportedly already available on iOS.
Some users on the stable version of WhatsApp may also receive the feature, but WhatsApp has not confirmed when the new options will become available to everyone.
The WhatsApp Chat Themes update is therefore still in the testing stage for Android users, and the final version or wider rollout could differ from the current beta experience.
