India’s stock markets are closed today, Tuesday, April 14, on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti.
Both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain shut for the entire day.
This means there will be no trading in equities or derivatives today.
What About Commodity Markets?
Trading is also affected in commodity markets, but with a slight difference.
The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) will remain closed during the day session.
However, it will reopen in the evening from 5:00 PM to 11:30 PM.
On the other hand, the agricultural commodity exchange National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) will stay completely closed for both sessions.
When Is the Next Stock Market Holiday?
If you’re planning your trades, here are the upcoming stock market holidays to note:
May 1 – Maharashtra Day
May 28 – Bakrid
June 26 – Muharram
September 14 – Ganesh Chaturthi
October 2 – Gandhi Jayanti
Markets will also remain closed later in the year for major festivals and national events.
Dussehra, Diwali and Year-End Holidays
The stock market will be closed on October 20 for Dussehra.
In November, markets will shut on:
November 10 – Diwali & Balipratipada
November 24 – Guru Nanak Jayanti
The final holiday of the year will be December 25 for Christmas.
Why There’s No Separate Diwali Holiday in 2026
Interestingly, there is no separate Diwali holiday listed this year.
That’s because Diwali falls on a Sunday (November 8), which is already a non-trading day.
However, the special Muhurat Trading session—a traditional Diwali event—will still take place on that day.
The exact timing will be announced separately.
Overall, today is a full market holiday for equities, while commodity traders can still participate in the evening session on MCX.
