Getting a Tatkal ticket at railway counters has often meant long queues, confusion, and heavy crowding.
To make the process smoother, Indian Railways has now introduced a token system for Tatkal bookings across all stations under the Kota Division of West Central Railway.
The new arrangement is aimed at improving crowd management and bringing more transparency to the booking process.
How the New Tatkal Token System Works
Under the new system, passengers will first receive tokens before booking their Tatkal tickets at reservation counters.
For AC class Tatkal tickets, tokens will be distributed between:
9:00 am and 9:25 am
For Sleeper class Tatkal tickets, tokens will be issued between:
9:30 am and 9:55 am
Passengers will then be allowed to book tickets according to their token number sequence instead of rushing into queues.
Railway officials believe this system will help reduce overcrowding and make the booking experience more organised.
Passengers Asked to Reach on Time
The Kota Division has advised passengers to arrive at the reservation office during the specified token timings.
Officials have also requested public cooperation to ensure the system runs smoothly.
The move is expected to bring better discipline at booking counters, especially during peak travel seasons when Tatkal demand remains extremely high.
Tatkal Booking Timings Remain the Same
The token system changes only the queue management process. Tatkal booking timings remain unchanged.
As per Indian Railways rules:
AC class Tatkal booking opens at 10:00 am
Non-AC or Sleeper Tatkal booking opens at 11:00 am
Bookings are available one day before the journey date.
Passengers can also book Tatkal tickets online through the IRCTC website or mobile app using Aadhaar-authenticated accounts.
Reservation Chart Rules Explained
Indian Railways has also shared updated guidelines regarding reservation chart preparation.
For trains departing between 5:01 am and 2:00 pm, the first reservation chart will preferably be prepared by 8:00 pm on the previous day.
For trains leaving between:
2:01 pm and 11:59 pm
12:00 am and 5:00 am
the first reservation chart will preferably be prepared at least 10 hours before departure.
Why This Change Matters
Tatkal booking remains one of the most competitive ticket booking systems in India.
Long queues and crowding at reservation counters often create confusion and inconvenience for passengers.
By introducing tokens, Indian Railways is trying to make the process more orderly, transparent, and passenger-friendly.
If the system works successfully in the Kota Division, similar arrangements could also be introduced in other railway divisions in the future.
