Passengers travelling through Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) should be aware of an important update.
The airport will remain temporarily closed for six hours on May 7 due to scheduled pre-monsoon runway maintenance work.
According to airport authorities, both runways will remain closed from 11 AM to 5 PM.
During this period, no flight will take off or land at the airport.
Why the Airport is Being Closed
The maintenance work is being carried out to ensure passenger safety during the upcoming monsoon season.
Airport officials said that Runway 09/27 and Runway 14/32 will undergo detailed inspections.
Minor damages and surface issues will also be repaired to make flight operations safer during heavy rains.
Every year, such maintenance work is done to keep the airport’s airside infrastructure in proper condition.
Airlines Were Informed in Advance
To avoid major inconvenience for passengers, the airport administration informed airlines and related authorities about the closure nearly six months ago.
This allowed airlines enough time to adjust their schedules and manage flight operations in advance.
Officials also stated that special teams and modern machinery have been arranged so the entire work can be completed within the planned six-hour window.
One of India’s Busiest Airports
Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport is the second busiest airport in India.
During the financial year 2024-25, the airport handled more than 55 million passengers.
Around 1,000 flights operate from the airport every day, making it one of the busiest single-runway airports in the world.
Who Operates Mumbai Airport?
The airport is managed by Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), which is a joint venture between the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Adani Airport Holdings.
The Adani Group currently holds a 74% stake in the airport operation company.
