Residents of Delhi-NCR may finally get some relief from the heat.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds at isolated places until June 25.

The weather department says changing weather conditions could bring cooler temperatures and make outdoor conditions more comfortable over the next few days.

Several States Under Weather Alert

The IMD’s warning is not limited to Delhi-NCR.

Weather alerts have also been issued for several states and Union Territories, including:

Haryana

Punjab

Chandigarh

Uttarakhand

Andhra Pradesh

Chhattisgarh

Gujarat

Tamil Nadu

West Bengal

Jammu and Kashmir

Ladakh

Andaman and Nicobar Islands

People in these regions have been advised to stay updated on local weather forecasts and take precautions during thunderstorms.

Heavy Rainfall Expected in Many Parts of India

Along with thunderstorms, the IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in several areas.

Assam, Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim are likely to receive intense rainfall over the next two days.

Heavy rain is also expected in Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and several northeastern states.

The rainfall is expected to bring relief from rising temperatures in many parts of the country.

Delhi Weather: Some Relief From the Heat

Delhi has seen slightly lower temperatures compared to what is usually expected in June.

On Monday, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 38.4 degrees Celsius, which was slightly below the seasonal average.

According to the IMD, temperatures at Safdarjung, Delhi’s main weather station, were marginally lower than the previous day.

For Tuesday, the department has predicted partly cloudy skies with temperatures ranging between 25 degrees Celsius and 40 degrees Celsius.

June is generally one of the hottest months in Delhi, with temperatures often crossing 40 degrees Celsius.

The expected thunderstorms and gusty winds could provide welcome relief for residents struggling with the summer heat.

Monsoon Picks Up Pace in Maharashtra

There is good news for Maharashtra as well.

The southwest monsoon has regained strength after remaining relatively inactive for nearly two weeks.

According to the IMD, the monsoon is expected to cover the entire state in the coming days.

Mumbai has already witnessed widespread rainfall, with showers reported from several areas, including Matunga and Senapati Bapat Road.

The renewed monsoon activity is expected to bring relief from humid and hot weather conditions across the state.

Air Quality Remains a Concern in Delhi

Despite the expected change in weather, Delhi’s air quality continues to remain a concern.

Several monitoring stations recorded air quality levels ranging from moderate to poor.

Anand Vihar reported an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 246, placing it in the “poor” category.

Other areas such as IIT Delhi, RK Puram, Rohini, Pusa, Patparganj, Sonia Vihar, and Wazirpur also recorded AQI levels ranging from moderate to poor.

While the upcoming rain and strong winds may help improve air quality to some extent, pollution levels remain an issue that residents will continue to monitor closely.

For now, Delhi-NCR residents can look forward to cooler weather, thunderstorms, and a possible break from the intense summer heat over the next few days.
