Google Photos has received a useful new update that gives users more control over how they search for photos.

The app now lets you easily switch between the traditional Classic Search and the AI-powered Ask Photos feature. This update is rolling out gradually for both Android and iPhone users.

Google Photos Now Offers Two Search Options

Google has introduced a new toggle that makes it easy to switch between Classic Search and Ask Photos. This gives users the flexibility to choose the search method that works best for them.

The update also lets users personalize how they use keywords and AI-powered search, making it easier to find the photos they need.

What Is Ask Photos?

Ask Photos is powered by Google’s Gemini AI. Instead of typing a few keywords, users can ask full questions in natural language, just like chatting with an AI assistant.

For example, you can ask questions about a trip, a family event, or a specific person. The AI understands the details in your photo library and shows relevant results based on the content of your images.

Classic Search Still Has Its Benefits

Google’s Classic Search continues to work with simple keywords. If you already know what you’re looking for, you can quickly find photos or videos by entering words related to them.

This option is ideal for fast and straightforward searches without relying on AI.

How to Switch Between Classic Search and Ask Photos

Switching between the two search modes is simple. Open the Google Photos app and go to the Search or Ask tab. After performing a search, use the toggle at the top of the screen to switch between Classic Search and Ask Photos.

Why Is Google Offering Both Options?

According to Google, both search methods are designed for different situations.

If you want to find a photo quickly using keywords, Classic Search is the better choice. But if you’re trying to locate photos from a specific trip, event, or person using natural language, Ask Photos can deliver more detailed

and helpful results. This gives users the freedom to choose the search experience that best fits their needs.
