The FASTag Annual Pass was introduced to make toll payments easier and reduce travel hassles across India. Launched on August 15, 2025, the pass was expected to be a convenient option for frequent travelers.
However, many vehicle owners are now discovering that the pass is not accepted on several major highways and expressways. As a result, they still have to pay toll charges separately on those routes.
What Is the FASTag Annual Pass?
The FASTag Annual Pass costs around ₹3,000 and remains valid for one year or up to 200 trips, whichever comes first.
It is designed for regular highway users and aims to simplify toll payments by reducing the need for frequent recharges.
Where Is the FASTag Annual Pass Not Accepted?
The annual pass is not valid on several highways and expressways operated by state governments or separate authorities.
These include:
Atal Setu (Goa)
Mumbai–Pune Expressway (Maharashtra)
Samruddhi Highway (Maharashtra)
Purvanchal Expressway (Uttar Pradesh)
Yamuna Expressway (Uttar Pradesh)
Bundelkhand Expressway (Uttar Pradesh)
Agra–Lucknow Expressway (Uttar Pradesh)
Since toll collection on these roads is managed by state agencies or independent authorities, the FASTag Annual Pass cannot be used there.
Why Doesn’t the Pass Work on These Roads?
The FASTag Annual Pass has been created mainly for National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) toll plazas and central government highways.
Many state-run expressways have their own toll collection systems. Because they operate independently, they are not covered under the FASTag Annual Pass scheme.
How Will Toll Be Charged on These Routes?
If you travel on a road where the annual pass is not valid, toll charges will be deducted from your regular FASTag balance.
This means that even if you have purchased the FASTag Annual Pass, you should always keep enough money in your FASTag account to avoid payment issues at toll plazas.
Important Things Travelers Should Know
Before planning a long trip, check whether your route is covered under the FASTag Annual Pass. Many popular expressways are still outside the scheme.
Keeping an active FASTag with sufficient balance is important, as you may still need to pay tolls on several major roads despite having the annual pass.
