In today’s time, traditional farming alone is often not enough to earn a good income. Farmers now need to adopt modern and technology-based farming methods to increase profits.
To support this change, the government has launched the RKVY-RAFTAAR scheme, which provides financial help to farmers and agriculture startups.
The main aim of this scheme is to improve agricultural infrastructure and encourage farmers to move beyond just crop cultivation.
The government wants farmers to become entrepreneurs by processing and selling their produce in better markets to earn higher profits.
Financial Help for Storage and Processing Facilities
The full form of RAFTAAR is “Remunerative Approach for Revival of Agriculture and Allied Sectors.”
Under this scheme, the government is offering financial assistance for setting up cold storage units, warehouses, and food processing facilities in rural areas.
Many farmers suffer losses because crops get damaged after harvesting due to poor storage facilities. With the help of this scheme, farmers can reduce post-harvest losses and keep their produce safe for a longer time.
The scheme also helps improve overall agricultural infrastructure in villages, making farming more profitable and efficient.
Big Push for Agri-Startups and New Business Ideas
RKVY-RAFTAAR is not limited to farming alone. The scheme also encourages agri-business and agriculture-related startups.
If a farmer or young entrepreneur comes up with an innovative farming idea or wants to start a business related to agriculture, the government provides training and financial support.
This can create new job opportunities in rural areas and help young people build successful businesses in the agriculture sector.
States Get Freedom to Make Their Own Plans
One of the biggest advantages of this scheme is that states can create agricultural plans according to their local needs and climate conditions.
The funding is shared between the central and state governments in a 60:40 ratio. However, for northeastern and hilly states, the central government covers up to 90% of the total cost.
This flexible system helps states focus on the crops and farming activities that are most suitable for their region.
Farmers Can Use Subsidy for Many Activities
With the help of this government subsidy, farmers can buy modern farming machines, promote organic farming, and even start businesses related to dairy and poultry farming.
Farmers who want to benefit from this scheme can contact their nearest Agriculture Department office. Applications can also be submitted through government digital portals to receive assistance under the scheme.
