ChatGPT Intelligent UI brings Interactive Tools to Users

ChatGPT Intelligent UI brings a major change to how users receive answers, with interactive diagrams, calculators, charts and maps appearing directly inside conversations when they can make information easier to understand.

OpenAI introduced the feature alongside its GPT-6 models on October 7, 2026, marking a shift beyond traditional text-based chatbot responses.

Instead of always returning long paragraphs, ChatGPT can now choose a format suited to the user’s question.

Someone trying to understand a complicated concept may see an interactive diagram, while a person planning expenses could receive a calculator with adjustable controls.

ChatGPT Intelligent UI Brings Interactive Answers

The new interface is designed to make conversations more useful by combining written explanations with visual and interactive elements.

Depending on the task, responses may include charts, comparison layouts, forms, tappable buttons and other controls that users can explore directly in the chat.

The system can decide when these formats are appropriate without requiring users to request a diagram or calculator every time.

Straightforward questions can still receive ordinary text responses, while more complex requests may benefit from a richer presentation.

The goal is to make information easier to explore rather than simply presenting users with a block of text.

The feature is particularly relevant to learning, planning, calculations and tasks where users need to compare different options.

From Calculators to Interactive Maps and Diagrams

One of the key additions is the ability to create task-specific tools within a conversation.

For example, users can request a bill-splitting calculator or a personal savings calculator and adjust relevant values to explore different outcomes.

Interactive diagrams can also help explain how objects or systems work.

OpenAI demonstrated an example involving a seven-speed bicycle, allowing users to explore different components instead of relying entirely on a written description.

Maps and visual planning tools can make travel-related questions easier to follow.

Charts and comparison layouts can also help users examine information side by side, while interactive controls allow them to change inputs and see corresponding results.

These features are intended to make ChatGPT more than a question-and-answer service.

Users can increasingly explore information and perform certain tasks without leaving the conversation.

How GPT-6 Decides What Users See

The Intelligent UI experience is powered by GPT-6, which is designed to determine when visual or interactive content would improve an answer.

The system can combine text with relevant elements rather than forcing every response into the same format.

This approach means that the appearance of an answer depends on the request.

A question requiring a simple definition may receive a short explanation, while a request to compare budgets or understand a complex mechanism could produce a more interactive result.

The feature does not mean that every ChatGPT response will contain graphics.

OpenAI has designed the experience to use visual elements when they add value, helping prevent conversations from becoming unnecessarily cluttered.

Users who prefer conventional written answers can also ask ChatGPT to use fewer visual elements.

This flexibility allows people to choose the style that works best for their needs.

When Will ChatGPT Intelligent UI Be Available?

OpenAI began the global rollout of Intelligent UI alongside GPT-6 on October 7, 2026, starting with Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users.

Access for Free and Go users was scheduled to expand from October 8.

The rollout uses GPT-6 Sol for Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise plans, while Free and Go users receive GPT-6 Luna.

Availability can depend on the selected model, reasoning setting and workspace configuration; the Pro reasoning option using GPT-6 Astra does not support Intelligent UI.

For users, the change could make everyday activities such as learning, budgeting, comparing options and planning trips more interactive.

However, the feature remains selective: ChatGPT will continue to provide plain-text answers when those are the most appropriate way to respond.
