Canada’s immigration department has shared the latest processing times for temporary residence applications. These updates are based on data up to April 15, and they show improvements in several key visa categories.
Here’s a simple breakdown of what has changed and what it means for applicants.
Faster Visitor Visa and Study Permit Processing
There is good news for Indian applicants. Processing times for both visitor visas and study permits have become faster.
Visitor visa processing time has dropped from around 37 days to just 23 days. This means applicants can now expect quicker decisions.
Study permits are also being processed faster. The time has reduced from about 4 weeks to nearly 3 weeks.
However, this trend is not the same everywhere. In the United States, visitor visa processing time has slightly increased from 15 days to 18 days. At the same time, study permit timelines have improved for both the US and Nigeria.
Super Visa Gets a Big Improvement
Super visa applicants from India have also received some relief.
The processing time has reduced from 202 days to 182 days. This is one of the biggest improvements seen among major countries applying for this visa.
Work Permit Processing Becomes Slower
While most categories have improved, work permits tell a different story for Indian applicants.
The processing time has increased from 7 weeks to 8 weeks, meaning applicants may have to wait a bit longer than before.
On the other hand, in the United States, work permit processing has slightly improved, dropping from 8 weeks to 7 weeks.
Changes in Other Countries
Processing times have also changed in other regions.
In the United States, overall processing time has decreased from 185 days to 164 days. Countries like Pakistan and the Philippines have also seen small improvements.
The immigration department has clarified that these timelines are based on expected decision periods. Actual processing time may vary depending on the type of application and the number of pending cases.
They also noted that these figures combine past data with current trends, so future timelines may change depending on application volume.
