In a significant development, the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) has given the green light for the operation of the ‘RapidX’ service on the priority section of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor.
This approval paves the way for the country’s first regional rail rapidx to commence operations.
The initial stretch for RapidX will be from Sahibabad to Duhai Depot.
Notably, the project was initiated in 2019.
Officials from the National Capital Region Transport Corporation have stated that commercial operations of RapidX services could begin within the next four years.
Introduction to RapidX
The priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor spans 17 kilometers, extending from Sahibabad to Duhai Depot.
Officials mentioned that the Ministry of Railways had previously granted approval for the RRTS train set, which is designed to achieve a top speed of 180 kmph and an operational speed of 160 kmph.
‘RapidX’ is the semi-high-speed regional rail service operated by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation,
which is a joint venture between the Central Government and the governments of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh.
Future Plans
NCRTC officials have emphasized that over the past year, the processes implemented by the organization for the transit infrastructure project have undergone thorough scrutiny from multiple safety evaluators.
It is only after obtaining approval from the Ministry of Railways and CMRS that the project has been given the green signal.
The ultimate goal of NCRTC is to open the entire 82-kilometer-long Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut section to the public by 2025.
