According to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the governing body for Aadhaar, there is no minimum age limit for obtaining an Aadhaar card.

This means that you can apply for an Aadhaar card for your newborn child, and there are no fees for children below the age of 5.

Process for Obtaining Your Child’s Aadhaar Card:

  1. Visit the Nearest Aadhaar Center: To obtain an Aadhaar card for your child below five years of age, visit the nearest Aadhaar center.
  2. Online Registration: Alternatively, you can also register online for your child’s Aadhaar.
  3. Documentation: Unlike adults, the fingerprints and retina of small children are not scanned. Instead, you will need to provide the child’s birth certificate.

In the absence of a birth certificate, a hospital’s discharge certificate or ID card can be used. Additionally, one of the parents must possess a valid ID document such as Aadhaar card, Voter’s ID card, Driver’s License, or Passport.

Updating Aadhaar Card After 5 Years:

If your child’s Aadhaar card is obtained before the age of five, it will remain valid until your child turns five years old. After reaching the age of five, you will need to update the Aadhaar card.

This update process includes capturing the child’s fingerprints and retina scan, and a nominal fee may be charged for this service.

Parents can also link their mobile number to their child’s Aadhaar card using the mAadhaar app, allowing them to manage their child’s account conveniently on their smartphones.

Obtaining an Aadhaar card for your child ensures their easy access to various services and paves the way for a smoother future.
