Jio Smart Glasses Bring UPI Payments Without Phone as Reliance Jio showcased its next-generation AI wearables at India Mobile Congress 2026, including smart glasses that can enable UPI payments without requiring users to take out their smartphones.
The company demonstrated two versions of the glasses, with one focused on audio and another featuring a camera and visual intelligence. Jio also highlighted live translation, support for Indian languages and an AI voice assistant.
Jio Smart Glasses Bring UPI Payments Without Phone
The camera-equipped model uses visual intelligence to understand what the wearer is looking at. At the event, Jio demonstrated a UPI payment experience in which users can make a payment through the glasses after viewing a payment QR code.
According to the information shared at the Jio pavilion, the company and NPCI have finalised the UPI payment feature for the smart glasses.
The technology is intended to allow users to complete payments without physically handling their phones.
However, Jio has not yet disclosed detailed information about the authentication process, security system or transaction limits for the feature.
Two Jio Smart Glasses Models Showcased
Jio showcased two models at IMC 2026.
The first is an audio-focused version with speakers and a stainless-steel frame designed to resemble conventional eyewear.
The second model adds a camera and visual intelligence.
This version is designed to recognise what the user is viewing and provide information in real time based on the visual context.
Both models are expected to support features such as live translation, multiple Indian languages and an AI voice assistant.
The glasses can also perform conventional smart-glasses functions such as taking calls, listening to music and recording video.
Live Translation and AI Features
Live translation is another major feature highlighted by Jio.
The glasses are designed to help users understand different languages in real time, potentially making conversations and travel easier.
The AI voice assistant is intended to let users interact with the glasses using voice commands.
The camera-equipped version can add visual context to those interactions, allowing the AI to respond based on what the wearer is seeing.
These capabilities position the glasses as an AI-powered wearable rather than simply an audio or camera accessory.
Jio Smart Glasses Launch Expected Soon
Jio has indicated that the smart glasses could be officially launched in November or December 2026.
However, the company has not yet announced their final price or complete specifications.
Details such as battery life, storage, camera specifications and the complete security mechanism for UPI payments are also yet to be disclosed.
The showcased technology points towards a more hands-free approach to everyday smartphone tasks, with payments, translation and AI assistance potentially accessible directly through wearable devices.
