YouTube Custom Feeds will let users create personalised video feeds using AI based on their interests and viewing needs. The company announced the feature along with several other updates at its Made on YouTube event.
Users will be able to describe the type of content they want in simple language. For example, they could create a feed for workout videos, longer documentaries or videos from new creators in a particular category.
YouTube Custom Feeds Use AI
The new feature will use AI to organise videos according to a user’s preferences. According to media reports, Google’s Gemini AI model will power the feature and help select relevant content.
Users will be able to create multiple custom feeds for different interests, moods or routines. Each feed will appear as a separate tab on YouTube’s homepage, making it easier to switch between different types of content.
Custom Feeds Launch in the US
The feature will initially be available to users in the US. YouTube plans to bring it to the web, mobile devices and TV.
The new feeds will not replace YouTube’s existing main feed. Instead, users will be able to switch between their regular feed and different personalised feeds according to their needs.
GIF Comments Are Coming
YouTube is also preparing to let users post GIFs in video comments. A searchable GIF library will allow users to find and add GIFs while reacting to videos.
The GIF commenting feature is expected to roll out globally on YouTube’s mobile app by the end of this year. It will give viewers another way to express reactions beyond traditional text comments.
Easier Comments on TV
YouTube is also making commenting easier on supported TVs. Users will be able to speak their comments, while text-to-speech technology will convert their voice into written comments.
The update could make commenting more convenient for people using the YouTube TV app, where typing long messages with a remote can be difficult.
Together, these changes show YouTube’s focus on AI-based personalisation and greater user interaction. YouTube Custom Feeds, GIF comments and easier TV commenting are designed to give viewers more control over how they discover and respond to content.
