Bengaluru commuters should plan their travel carefully on September 8 as major traffic restrictions will be in place around Shivajinagar for the annual feast at St Mary’s Basilica.
According to the Bengaluru traffic advisory, restrictions will remain in force from 1 PM to 11 PM within the Shivajinagar Traffic Police Station limits.
Several important roads will either be closed completely or have restricted vehicle movement during the grand procession.
The annual feast at St Mary’s Basilica concludes on September 8, when a grand procession is held through Shivajinagar.
Bengaluru Traffic Restrictions: These Roads Will Be Affected
Traffic movement will be affected on several key roads and junctions in the area.
The movement of BMTC buses between Balekundri Circle and Jyothi Café Junction has already been restricted.
During the procession, movement of all types of vehicles on this stretch will be completely stopped.
These restrictions will remain in place from 1 PM to 11 PM on September 8.
Commuters travelling through Shivajinagar during these hours are advised to avoid the affected routes and use alternative roads wherever possible.
Bengaluru Traffic Diversions: Alternative Routes for Commuters
The traffic police have announced alternative routes to help vehicles move around the restricted areas.
BMTC buses from Queens Road and Vidhana Soudha towards Shivajinagar Bus Stand will travel through Balekundri/Queens Road.
They will take a left near Traffic Head Quarters Junction, continue through Infantry Road and then turn left near Central Street Junction before reaching Shivajinagar Bus Stand.
Buses coming from Anil Kumble Junction towards Shivajinagar will drop passengers after taking a left or right turn at BRV Junction and then return to their regular routes.
Buses approaching Shivajinagar Bus Station from the Manipal Junction side will drop passengers near BRV Junction.
They will then proceed straight, take a left near CTO Junction and return via MG Road.
Commercial Street and Pulakeshinagar Routes
Vehicles coming from the Commercial Street side can take a left near Bowring Hospital Junction and continue straight through Cubbon Road.
Those travelling from Pulakeshinagar towards Shivajinagar should take a left at Quadrant Circle and continue through D.K. Street.
Parking Banned on These Roads
Parking will also be prohibited on several roads near the event area.
