The helicopter fare between Katra and Sanjichhat is set to increase from November 1, 2026.
The fare hike means pilgrims choosing the faster helicopter option will have to pay more for both one-way and return journeys.
How Much Will the Helicopter Ticket Cost?
Under the revised fare, a one-way helicopter ticket from Katra to Sanjichhat will cost ₹2,700.
A round-trip ticket will cost ₹5,400.
Currently, pilgrims pay ₹2,320 for a one-way journey and ₹4,640 for a return trip.
This means the fare will increase by ₹380 for a one-way journey and ₹760 for a round trip.
The new prices will apply from November 1.
Why Do Pilgrims Choose the Helicopter?
Every year, lakhs of devotees travel to Jammu and Kashmir to visit the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine.
Many pilgrims choose to walk from Katra to the Bhawan.
But the steep journey can be difficult, especially for senior citizens, children and people with health concerns.
For such travellers, the helicopter service can save considerable time and reduce the physical effort involved.
The helicopter takes passengers from Katra to Sanjichhat. From Sanjichhat, pilgrims have to cover the remaining distance to the Bhawan on foot.
Apart from helicopters, devotees can also use options such as battery cars, ponies and palkis, depending on availability and their requirements.
Shrine Board Focuses on Pilgrim Facilities
The fare revision comes as the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board continues its efforts to improve facilities and services for devotees.
Recently, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha praised the Shrine Board for its work in improving safety, convenience and services for pilgrims.
During an event marking the foundation day of the Shrine Board and the annual day of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gurukul, Sinha also spoke about the importance of combining modern education with traditional values.
He encouraged students to remain curious and highlighted the importance of asking questions in the learning process.
Focus on Technology, Values and the Environment
Sinha stressed that progress should not come at the cost of values.
He said that science provides speed, while values provide direction, highlighting the need to balance modern technology with ethical thinking.
He also called for a balance between artificial intelligence and spirituality.
The Lieutenant Governor urged educational institutions to preserve traditional values while also embracing subjects such as science, computers and emerging technologies.
Environmental protection was another key focus.
He called for greater awareness about water conservation, energy saving, tree plantation and cleanliness, saying that respect for nature remains important in the fight against climate change.
New Initiatives Planned for the Gurukul
Sinha also proposed three initiatives for the Gurukul.
These include a Values and Science Innovation Centre, a campaign connecting students with local communities, and a programme focused on future skills and ethical technology.
The aim is to prepare students for new technologies while ensuring that values and responsibility remain at the centre of education.
