iPhone 18 Pro Max Variable Aperture Camera could be one of the biggest upgrades in Apple’s next-generation flagship lineup, according to a new leak.
The latest rumour suggests that the feature may not be available on the smaller iPhone 18 Pro model.
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max next month. Both models are widely rumoured to arrive with the new A20 Pro chipset, larger batteries and camera improvements.
iPhone 18 Pro Max Variable Aperture Camera
According to tipster Ice Universe, Apple may introduce a variable-aperture main camera only on the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
The tipster claims the camera hardware requires more internal space, which the larger Pro Max model can provide. No additional technical details about the feature have been shared.
A variable-aperture camera can adjust the amount of light entering the lens, potentially helping users capture better photos in different lighting conditions.
Pro Max may be thicker and heavier
The same tipster previously claimed that the iPhone 18 Pro Max could weigh around 240g and measure 9mm in thickness. If accurate, it would be slightly heavier and thicker than the current iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Apple has not officially confirmed these specifications or the reported camera upgrade.
Apple has done this before
This would not be the first time Apple has kept a premium camera feature exclusive to its largest Pro model.
In 2023, the iPhone 15 Pro Max introduced a tetraprism telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom, while the iPhone 15 Pro offered a 3x optical telephoto camera.
As with all pre-launch leaks, these details remain unconfirmed until Apple officially announces the iPhone 18 series.
