The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has released an important update for salaried employees.

If you are an EPF member, you should check your PF records as soon as possible.

EPFO has asked members to verify their joining date and exit date in their PF account.

If these details are incorrect, you could face problems while withdrawing your PF money or claiming your pension in the future.

Why Checking Your EPFO Records Is Important

According to EPFO, incorrect employment records can create serious issues during PF claims and pension processing.

Sometimes employers upload incorrect information, or the exit date of an employee is not updated properly after leaving a job.

If your exit date is missing or wrong in the EPFO system, you may not be able to use several EPFO services.

It could also delay or block your pension-related benefits.

Checking these details now can help you avoid unnecessary problems later.

How to Check Your Joining and Exit Date

You can verify your employment details online by following these simple steps:

Visit the EPFO Unified Member Portal.

Log in using your UAN (Universal Account Number) and password.

Click on the View tab.

Select Service History.

Check the joining and exit dates for your current and previous employers.

If everything is correct, no further action is needed.

What to Do If Your Details Are Wrong

If you find any mistake in your joining or exit date, you should get it corrected as early as possible.

You can use the Mark Exit option available under the Manage section on the EPFO portal if applicable.

In most cases, your previous employer must update the correct information.

You should contact your former company’s HR department and request them to make the correction.

If your previous company has shut down or you cannot contact it, you can submit a Joint Declaration Form along with the required documents at your nearest EPFO office.

Important Points Every EPF Member Should Know

EPFO has clarified that any change in your joining or exit date must match the PF contributions deposited by your employer. The details are verified before they are updated.

Members whose UAN was issued before October 1, 2017, may also need to submit an online Joint Declaration, which requires approval from their employer.

If your UAN is not linked with Aadhaar or if a PF claim is being made after the member’s death, a physical declaration must be submitted through the employer for EPFO approval.

If your previous employer is no longer operating or cannot be contacted, you can directly approach your local EPFO office with a Joint Declaration and supporting documents.

The declaration should be signed by an authorised officer before it is processed.
