Heavy monsoon rains have badly affected travel between Mumbai and Pune. Multiple landslides in the Bhor Ghat section have disrupted both road and rail connectivity, forcing authorities to shut key transport routes.

The Mumbai-Pune Expressway, the old Mumbai-Pune Highway, and several train services have been affected.

Officials have advised people to avoid non-essential travel until the weather improves and restoration work is completed.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also warned that heavy rainfall is likely to continue in parts of Maharashtra.

Expressway and Highway Closed Due to Landslides

Traffic on both the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the old Mumbai-Pune Highway has been suspended after landslides and flooding made the roads unsafe.

Officials said a concrete structure near the recently opened Missing Link section collapsed onto the road.

Continuous rainfall also caused waterlogging and debris to pile up at several locations.

As a precaution, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and local authorities stopped traffic in both directions.

Emergency teams are now working to clear the debris and inspect the damaged areas before the roads can be reopened.

Train Services Between Mumbai and Pune Affected

Rail services have also been disrupted due to landslides near Thakurwadi and between Khandala and Monkey Hill in the Karjat-Lonavala Bhor Ghat section.

The landslides affected all three railway lines, forcing Central Railway to suspend train operations on this route.

Several popular trains, including the Indrayani Express, Deccan Queen, Intercity Express, and Pragati Express, have been cancelled. Some long-distance trains have been diverted or rescheduled to reduce inconvenience.

Passengers are advised to check the latest train status before leaving for the station.

Newly Opened Missing Link Also Impacted

The disruption has also affected the newly opened Missing Link section of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

This 13-kilometre bypass was introduced earlier this year to reduce travel time and improve traffic flow through the Sahyadri hills.

However, the recent heavy rains and landslides have highlighted the challenges of maintaining infrastructure in the landslide-prone Western Ghats.

Restoration Work Continues

Authorities are working continuously to remove debris, inspect damaged roads and railway tracks, and restore normal services as quickly as possible.

However, ongoing rainfall could delay repair work.

Until the situation improves, commuters are advised to postpone unnecessary travel and follow official updates before planning their journey.

Key Update for Travellers

Heavy rainfall and landslides have disrupted both road and rail travel between Mumbai and Pune.

The Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the old highway remain closed, while train services through the Bhor Ghat section have been suspended.

Several trains have been cancelled or diverted, and restoration work is underway.

Travelers should check the latest traffic and railway updates before starting their journey.
