There is important news for crores of EPF (Employees’ Provident Fund) account holders across the country.

After remaining closed for nearly a week due to a system upgrade, the Unified Member Portal of the EPFO (Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation) is now live with a new design and several important changes.

The main purpose of this upgrade is to provide faster, safer, and more convenient online services to EPF members. One of the biggest changes is related to the UAN (Universal Account Number).

From now on, UAN activation and new UAN generation will no longer be available on the EPFO website.

UAN Activation and New UAN Generation Moved to UMANG App

The EPFO has announced that both UAN activation and new UAN generation have been completely shifted to the UMANG App.

If an employee wants to activate their UAN or generate a new UAN for the first time, they must now use the UMANG App instead of the EPFO portal. The process uses Aadhaar-based Face Authentication (FAT), making identity verification more secure and user-friendly.

How to Activate Your UAN Through the UMANG App

If your UAN is not yet activated, first download the UMANG App on your smartphone.

After opening the app, go to EPFO Services and select the “UAN Activation” option under “UAN Services Through Face Auth.”

Then follow the instructions displayed on the screen and complete the Aadhaar-based face authentication process. Once the verification is successful, your UAN will be activated.

New UAN Can Also Be Generated Through UMANG

Earlier, employees could generate a new UAN directly from the EPFO portal. However, this option has now been removed from the website.

If you already have a PF account but do not have a UAN, you can now generate one through the UMANG App.

Simply choose the “UAN Allotment and Activation” option, verify your mobile number, enter the required member details,

and complete the Aadhaar-based face authentication process. After successful verification, your new UAN will be generated.

Forgot Your UAN? Here’s How to Get It Back

The upgraded EPFO portal has also made it easier to recover a forgotten UAN.

If you do not remember your UAN, visit the EPFO portal and enter your registered mobile number.

Upload the required identity or address proof documents, verify yourself using the OTP sent to your mobile number, and you will be able to retrieve your UAN easily.

Death Claim Facility Remains Unchanged

The EPFO has confirmed that the online death claim facility will continue to be available through the Unified Member Portal.

Nominees or beneficiaries can apply online for pension and other claims after the death of an EPF member.

To complete the application, the beneficiary must have an Aadhaar-linked active mobile number and valid bank account details.

Applicants must upload documents such as the death certificate, bank passbook or cancelled cheque,

and proof of date of birth in PDF format. Each file should be smaller than 2 MB, and the file names should not contain any spaces.

What Is the UMANG App?

UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) is the official mobile application of the Government of India. It provides access to a wide range of government services through a single platform.

Most EPFO online services are now available through the UMANG App. This allows employees to complete many PF-related tasks from home using their mobile phones, reducing the need to visit an EPFO office.

EPFO Services Become More Digital and Secure

With the launch of the upgraded portal and the increased use of the UMANG App, EPFO aims to make its services more digital, secure, and convenient for users.

If you are an EPF member, the UMANG App is now the official and easiest platform for all UAN-related services, including UAN activation and new UAN generation.
