If you use the mAadhaar mobile app, here’s an important update.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that the app is being phased out from June 30, 2026.
Users are now being encouraged to move to the new Aadhaar App, which offers faster access, better privacy, and several new features.
UIDAI has also shared the update through its official social media channels.
Why Should You Switch to the New Aadhaar App?
According to UIDAI, the new Aadhaar App has been designed with a strong focus on security, privacy, and ease of use.
The app allows Aadhaar holders to securely carry, share, verify, and use their digital identity for various everyday services without exposing unnecessary personal information.
One of its biggest features is selective credential sharing.
Instead of sharing your complete Aadhaar details, you can choose to share only the information required for a particular service through a secure QR code.
New Features Available in the Aadhaar App
The upgraded Aadhaar App comes with several useful features, including:
Hotel check-ins using QR code verification.
Optional face authentication for identity verification.
Age verification for cinema ticket bookings.
Verification for hospital visitors and attendants.
Identity verification for gig workers and service partners.
One-click biometric lock and unlock.
Aadhaar authentication history.
QR-based contact card for sharing contact details.
Support for up to five Aadhaar profiles on one device under the “One Family – One App” feature.
Mobile number and address update services, with more features expected in future updates.
UIDAI says the new app follows the principles of the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act by ensuring that Aadhaar numbers are not stored by the verifying agency.
What Was the mAadhaar App?
The mAadhaar app was UIDAI’s official mobile application that allowed users to download Aadhaar, generate a Virtual ID (VID), share e-KYC details, and access several Aadhaar-related services.
It also served as a valid digital identity proof across India and enabled users to share QR codes for Aadhaar verification when required.
Do You Need to Transfer Your Data?
No. The mAadhaar app and the new Aadhaar App do not automatically sync with each other.
This means your profile and data from the old app will not be transferred to the new one.
Users must download the new Aadhaar App from the official app store and register their Aadhaar profile again.
Once your profile has been successfully set up in the new app, you can safely uninstall the old mAadhaar app from your device.
