Planning to apply for a passport or renew your existing one? You may have to pay more from July 1, as the government has revised the fees for several passport-related services.
The new charges will apply to passport replacements, minor passports, Police Clearance Certificates (PCCs), and other services across India.
Passport Replacement Becomes More Expensive
If your passport is lost, stolen, or damaged, getting a replacement will now cost more.
Under the revised fee structure:
A 36-page passport will cost ₹5,000 under the normal category and ₹7,500 under the Tatkaal scheme.
A 60-page passport will cost ₹6,000 under the normal category and ₹8,500 under Tatkaal.
These revised charges will come into effect from July 1.
Fees for Minor Passports Also Revised
The government has also increased passport fees for applicants below 18 years of age.
For minors:
A 36-page passport will cost ₹1,750 under the normal category.
Under the Tatkaal scheme, the fee will be ₹4,250.
Apart from passports, charges for Police Clearance Certificates (PCCs) and Certificates of Identity have also been revised.
Government Updates Passport Rules
The revised fee structure has been notified through amendments to the Passports Rules, 1980, issued by the Ministry of External Affairs.
The new charges will apply at all Passport Seva Kendras across India.
Eligible applicants applying through Indian missions abroad will also be covered, although overseas fees may vary.
What Applicants Should Do
If you are planning to apply for a new passport, renew an existing one, or replace a lost passport, make sure you check the revised fee structure before submitting your application.
Those who wish to avoid the higher charges can apply before July 1, provided they have all the required documents ready.
It is important to note that passport validity remains unchanged.
Adult passports will continue to be issued for 10 years, while passport validity for minors will continue under the existing rules.
