A claim has been circulating on social media that LPG connections from Indane, HP Gas, and Bharat Gas will be discontinued after June 30, 2026.
The rumor has caused concern among millions of households, especially as the government is promoting Piped Natural Gas (PNG) in many cities.
However, the government has clarified that this claim is false. No order has been issued to stop LPG connections after June 30.
What Is the June 30 Deadline?
The confusion started after the government announced a 90-day transition period in March 2026 for areas where PNG services are already available.
This period was introduced to encourage households to gradually switch to PNG if they choose to do so. The 90-day window ends on June 30, 2026.
However, this date does not mean LPG services will be shut down. The government has not released any notification stating that LPG connections will be discontinued across the country after June 30.
What Does the LPG and PNG Policy Mean?
The government’s focus is to increase the use of PNG in areas where the service is available. PNG is supplied directly to homes through pipelines, reducing the need for cylinder deliveries.
Under the policy, households that already have a PNG connection may find it difficult to get a new LPG connection. In some regions, consumers may also be asked to surrender their LPG connection after activating PNG.
However, these rules can vary depending on local regulations and the availability of PNG infrastructure.
PNG Connections Continue to Grow
According to the Petroleum Ministry, around 10 lakh PNG connections have been activated since March 2026.
Work is also underway to provide about 3.22 lakh additional connections. The ministry has further revealed that nearly 9.94 lakh applications for new PNG connections have been received so far.
Don’t Believe Viral Rumors
The government has clearly stated that reports claiming LPG connections will be stopped after June 30, 2026, are only rumors.
Consumers should avoid relying on unverified social media posts and instead trust information released by the government, Indane, HP Gas, Bharat Gas, or other official sources.
