Train passengers will now need to pay closer attention to the weight of their luggage. Similar to air travel, Indian Railways has issued clear guidelines on how much luggage passengers can carry in different classes of trains.

Railway officials have warned that passengers carrying luggage beyond the permitted limit may face penalties. The move aims to improve passenger comfort, maintain order inside coaches, and ensure safer travel for everyone.

Why Has Indian Railways Introduced These Rules?

According to the Railways, excessive luggage often creates inconvenience for passengers and can block movement inside coaches. In emergency situations, too much baggage can also make it difficult for people to move quickly and safely.

By limiting luggage weight, the Railways hopes to reduce overcrowding and make journeys more comfortable and secure.

Luggage Limits for Different Coach Classes

Indian Railways has fixed separate luggage limits for each travel class:

First AC passengers can carry up to 70 kg of luggage.

Second AC passengers are allowed up to 50 kg.

Third AC and Sleeper Class passengers can carry up to 40 kg.

Second Class passengers can carry a maximum of 35 kg.

Passengers are advised to check the weight of their luggage before starting their journey to avoid any inconvenience.

What If You Need to Carry More Luggage?

Railway officials have said that passengers carrying luggage beyond the prescribed limit can use the luggage van facility.

By booking extra luggage in the luggage van, passengers can ensure that their belongings are transported safely to their destination without putting additional pressure on train coaches.

Ferozepur Division Senior Commercial Manager Basant Kumar said the arrangement has been introduced for the convenience and safety of passengers.

He urged travelers to follow the luggage guidelines and carry baggage within the allowed limits.

Indian Railways believes that following these rules will help make train journeys smoother, safer, and more comfortable for all passengers while reducing inconvenience inside coaches.
