Consumers who have installed a PNG (pipeline natural gas) connection will now have to surrender their domestic LPG cylinders.
As per the new rules, no household can keep both PNG and LPG connections at the same time.
If anyone fails to surrender their LPG connection, their gas supply may be stopped. The District Supply Office (DSO) has issued strict instructions regarding this rule.
Rising Demand and Pressure on Gas Supply System
The district has around 4.68 lakh domestic gas consumers and more than 650 commercial connections. Gas supply is managed through 39 agencies of Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum.
n recent months, the demand for LPG cylinders has increased sharply, leading to long queues outside gas agencies. This situation has created pressure on the supply system.
Government Push for PNG and How to Surrender LPG Connection
To manage the situation, the District Magistrate has encouraged the use of PNG connections. Officials have clarified that households using PNG are not allowed to keep LPG cylinders.
Such consumers must surrender their LPG connection either online or by contacting their gas agency directly.
At the same time, PNG pipeline work is expanding rapidly, and the network has already been completed in 14 major areas of the city.
