There is good news for customers of State Bank of India. The two-day nationwide strike planned by bank employees for May 25 and 26, 2026, has now been officially postponed.
This means all SBI branches across the country will remain open and banking services will continue without any interruption.
The decision has brought major relief to millions of customers who were worried about banking work getting delayed for several days.
Strike Called Off After Important Meeting
The decision was taken after a long meeting between SBI management and the employees’ union, the All India State Bank of India Staff Federation (AISBISF), at the bank’s Corporate Center in Mumbai.
According to union leaders, the discussions were positive and both sides reached agreement on several important issues raised by employees.
After seeing a positive response from the management, the union decided to postpone the strike for now.
Because of this, customers will not face problems in banking services next week.
Four-Day Banking Disruption Avoided
Customers were especially worried because banks were already closed on May 23 due to the fourth Saturday and on May 24 because of Sunday.
If the strike had continued on May 25 and 26, many banking services could have stopped for four straight days.
Important work like cheque clearance, cash deposits, withdrawals, loan processing, and demand drafts could have been badly affected.
Now, with the strike postponed, customers can complete their banking work without stress.
What Were the Employees Demanding?
The employees’ union had submitted a 16-point list of demands to SBI management. Some of the major demands included:
Recruitment of more permanent staff to reduce workload in branches
Immediate filling of vacant Messenger and Armed Guard posts
Stopping outsourcing of regular bank work to private agencies
Giving employees under the National Pension System (NPS) the option to choose their fund manager
Fixing pension-related issues and improving salaries
Better work-life balance for bank employees
The union said these demands are important for both employees and the smooth functioning of the bank.
SBI Gives Assurance to Customers
After the strike was postponed, State Bank of India issued an official statement assuring customers that there is no need to worry.
The bank said all branches will function normally from Monday onwards. SBI also confirmed that its ATMs, internet banking, mobile banking services, and the YONO app will continue to work 24/7 without interruption.
Customers have been advised to visit their nearest branch normally for all financial work.
