Amid rising inflation and increasing living costs, the Tamil Nadu government has announced good news for government employees and pensioners. Chief Minister Joseph Vijay on Thursday approved a 2% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA).

With this decision, the DA for state government employees, teachers, pensioners, and family pensioners has increased from 58% to 60%. The revised rates will come into effect from January 1, 2026.

Big Relief for Employees and Pensioners

The state government said the DA hike was introduced to help people deal with rising inflation and the growing cost of daily expenses. The move is expected to provide financial support to lakhs of families across the state.

According to officials, nearly 16 lakh people, including government staff, teachers, pensioners, and family pensioners, will benefit from this announcement.

Government’s Annual Expenses to Rise

The DA increase will also raise the state government’s financial burden. Reports suggest that the Tamil Nadu government will spend around ₹1,230 crore extra every year because of the revised allowance.

Chief Minister Joseph Vijay said the decision was taken to improve the financial condition of employees and teachers and to provide them relief during a period of high inflation.
