People receiving social security pensions in Bihar need to pay attention to an important update.
The Bihar Social Welfare Department has asked pensioners to complete their life certificate process before May 30, 2026.
Officials have warned that pension payments could stop if the life certificate is not submitted on time.
The announcement was made during a review meeting of ongoing social security schemes at the Bihar Directorate of Social Security.
Why Is Life Certificate Important?
A life certificate is required to confirm that the pension beneficiary is alive and eligible to continue receiving pension benefits.
Social Welfare Minister Dr. Shweta Gupta appealed to all remaining pensioners to complete this process quickly.
She said pensioners can easily submit their life certificates free of cost through:
Panchayat-level camps
Nearby Common Service Centers (CSC)
The government wants to ensure that pension payments continue without interruption.
More Than 91 Lakh Pensioners Have Already Completed the Process
According to Minister Shweta Gupta, around 91.25 lakh pensioners under Bihar’s social security schemes have already completed their life certification.
The minister directed officials to make sure every eligible pensioner completes the process.
She also asked departments to spread awareness through advertisements and improve coordination at the grassroots level.
Officials have been instructed to ensure that benefits reach all eligible people in a transparent and timely manner.
Who Gets Benefits Under Bihar Social Security Schemes?
The Bihar government provides financial assistance to several vulnerable groups through these schemes. These include:
Elderly people
Widows
Disabled persons
Leprosy patients
Beggars and poor families
The aim of these schemes is to provide financial support and social security to needy citizens across the state.
Pension Amount Increased in Bihar
Social security pension schemes were strengthened during Nitish Kumar’s government in Bihar.
At present, more than 1 crore beneficiaries are receiving pensions under different social security schemes in the state.
Before the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, the Bihar government increased the monthly pension amount for elderly people, widows, and disabled beneficiaries from ₹400 to ₹1,100 per month.
This increase brought major relief to lakhs of families depending on pension support.
