Important news has come out regarding Reliance Jio. The company has made changes to some of its recharge plans, especially those linked to its feature phones.
According to reports, Jio has removed specific plans named after JioPhone and JioPhone Prima.
At the same time, it has renamed JioBharat phone plans to “4G Feature Phone Plans.” Data add-ons for these devices are now called “4G Feature Phone Add-ons.”
This change is believed to be in line with instructions from Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.
Why Were These Changes Made?
Earlier, Jio offered separate and cheaper recharge plans for its feature phones like JioPhone and JioBharat. These phones support 4G, but they are simpler than smartphones.
Because of this, Jio created low-cost plans specifically for these users. This helped customers who didn’t need high data usage save money.
However, TRAI recently asked telecom companies to make such device-specific plans more flexible. The goal is to ensure that recharge plans are not limited to just one type of device.
What TRAI Said
As per reports, TRAI instructed Jio to revise its plans so that they can be available to users across different devices.
Following this, Jio renamed its plans instead of keeping them tied to specific phone models. But one important question still remains—will these plans now be available to all 4G users or only feature phone users?
There is no official confirmation yet.
New Jio 4G Feature Phone Plans
Here’s a quick look at the updated plans:
Rs. 123 plan: Unlimited calling, 0.5GB data per day, 300 SMS, validity of 28 days
Rs. 234 plan: Same benefits, validity of 56 days
Rs. 369 plan: Same benefits, validity of 84 days
Rs. 1234 plan: Long-term plan with 336 days validity
These plans continue to offer basic data and calling benefits at affordable prices.
What Does This Mean for Users?
At first, this looks like just a name change. But it could have a bigger impact.
If these plans are opened to all 4G users, more people may benefit from cheaper recharge options. On the other hand, if they remain limited to feature phones, then nothing much will change for smartphone users.
