Helping a road accident victim in Delhi could now earn you both recognition and a cash reward.
The Government of Delhi has launched a new humanitarian initiative called the Rah-Veer Scheme.
The aim is simple — encourage people to act quickly and save lives after road accidents.
Under this scheme, anyone who helps a seriously injured victim reach a hospital in time can receive Rs 25,000 along with official recognition.
What Is the Rah-Veer Scheme?
“Rah-Veer” means “road hero.”
The scheme is designed to honour ordinary citizens who step forward in emergency situations instead of walking away.
Many people hesitate to help accident victims because they fear police questioning or court visits.
This initiative aims to remove that fear and promote humanity on the roads.
The focus is on saving lives during the most critical time after an accident.
Why the ‘Golden Hour’ Matters
The first 60 minutes after a serious injury are known as the “golden hour.”
Medical experts say quick treatment during this time can dramatically increase survival chances.
Under the Rah-Veer Scheme:
Any citizen who takes a seriously injured accident victim to a hospital or trauma centre within the golden hour is eligible.
The total reward per accident case is Rs 25,000.
A certificate of appreciation will also be given.
If more than one person helps in the same case, the reward amount remains Rs 25,000 in total.
Legal Protection for Helpers
The scheme works in line with the Good Samaritan Rules under the Motor Vehicles Act.
These rules protect people who help accident victims in good faith. They cannot be forced into unnecessary legal procedures or harassment.
This means you can help someone without worrying about getting into trouble.
How the Reward Is Given
A district-level committee will verify each case.
This committee includes:
The District Magistrate
A senior police officer
Medical authorities
Transport officials
Once approved, the reward amount will be directly transferred to the helper’s bank account.
Special Awards for Outstanding Heroes
The scheme goes a step further.
Every year, ten citizens will be selected as the most outstanding Rah-Veers.
Each of them will receive:
Rs 1 lakh
A special certificate of honour
A Step Toward Saving More Lives
Road accidents claim thousands of lives every year, often because help does not arrive in time.
The Rah-Veer Scheme aims to change that.
By rewarding courage and compassion, the Delhi government hopes more people will step forward during emergencies — and more lives will be saved.
