Telecom Companies introduce Caller Name Display

Reliance Jio, Airtel, and other telecom companies have started offering Caller Name Presentation (CNAP) services in many parts of India.

This feature shows the name of callers, even if the number is unknown, helping users identify who is calling before answering.

Earlier, people had to rely on third-party apps like Truecaller to see caller names.

But now, following TRAI’s guidelines, telecom operators themselves are displaying caller names by default.

How the Service Works

The name that appears on the screen comes from the ID provided when the mobile number was purchased.

By default, this feature is active for all users, but anyone can choose to deactivate it if they don’t want it.

Trials for this service were already conducted last year in Mumbai and Haryana.

This initiative is expected to reduce fraudulent calls, helping users avoid hackers, scammers, and other cyber threats.

Where the Service Is Available

Reliance Jio: Haryana, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Kerala, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha

Airtel: Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, West Bengal

Vodafone Idea: Parts of Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu

BSNL: Currently testing in West Bengal

With this feature, users can now know who is calling before picking up, making calls safer and giving people more control over their communication.
